Settled in the peaceful Cary Park, the Anchorage is ideally situated for visiting the many delights of Torbay and the Devonshire countryside.

 A short stroll from the hotel  on the level is the fascinating Model Village, the historical Bygones, and of course Babbacombe Downs from where there are wonderful views of Lyme Bay as seen on the left.   The  prehistoric caves Kents Cavern are nearby, where the temperature remains at a constant 14 degrees centigrade all year round are certainly worth a visit. A little further afield, but easily reached from Torquay sea front, is the historic village of Cockington and craft centre.You could even take a leisurely ride in a horse-drawn carriage from the front to the village. For the more energetic there are numerous coastal walks easily accessible from the hotel. 

Just a short bus ride away is the bustle of Torquay with its shopping centre, lively harbour, theatre and beaches. You can relax in the sun or stroll along the promenade and take in the fantastic views of Torbay.

Some of the best beaches in England are to be found in and around the Bay and everyone of them has safe swimming.  There are water sports of some kind available from most of them.

 Plymouth with it's new city centre development, the county town of Exeter and the magnificent cathedral, picturesque Dartmouth with it's naval connection are all within easy reach.

Dartmoor National Park is a wonderful place to visit and get away from it all. Here there are literally hundreds of walks, from walking alongside the rivers and streams, climbing the many Tors,or strolling on the open moorland amongst the heather.  For something different you can enjoy the pleasures of  "Letter Boxing",experience wonderful drives with  stunning views, a pub lunch or a traditional cream tea, there is nowhere to compare to the amazing scenery of Dartmoor, where ponies graze and the speed limit is 40 mph.

  Easy driving distance from the Anchorage are many National Trust properties including Killerton House, Powderham Castle, Castle Drogo, Colleton Fishacre , Greenway with it's Agatha Christie connection, Knightshayes and Saltram House.
 
 Boat trips from Torquay to Brixham or Dartmouth make for a refreshing day out and perhaps from Dartmouth a trip up the river Dart to Totnes. You might even consider a steam train journey from Paignton to Kingswear linked to a ferry ride across to historic Dartmouth.
